A Laurel/Pelican medallion for Countess Richenda de la Selva on the occasion of her elevation tot the oder of the Pelican, using filigree & granulation techniques similar to those used for my bucket shaped pendants.  Richenda’s persona is 15th c Swedish, so the design reflects an attempt at a later aesthetic than typical for viking age and earlier styles in which these techniques are more commonly used.

The medallion is made from argentium and fine silver and is ~45mm in diameter. The filigree is twisted 26 & 30 ga. wire.  The small granules are ~0.4mm & the large are ~1.0mm.

The wire pieces are shaped and then slightly flattened to give better contact with the base for the metals to join. After the wire outlines are adhered and dried, the granules are added and allowed to dry as well before the piece is soldered using a torch on a charcoal block.

The final necklace was strung with pearls and onyx beads.
